What is willpower and how does it help us in reaching our goals? How to increase your willpower to succeed…
Willpower is what gives us determination to succeed or do something which we know will bring benefit to our life. Whether it’s the willpower to go out and look for a new job, the willpower to meet someone new in a romantic sense or the willpower to eat healthily, it is something which we say we all need to start the process. The ‘lack’ of willpower is also often spoken about when we want to do something but we do not feel motivated enough to make the changes we need.
‘I will find the willpower to do that!’
WHAT IS THE WILLPOWER MEANING?
Willpower is described as a mixture of self-control, determination and self-discipline. It is something which we believe urges us to make the changes that we need for success, or make the first steps to creating what we want. Motivation is an essential part of willpower because unless we feel motivated, we may not have enough willpower to do what we want to do. How many times have you said ‘I just don’t have the willpower to do that’? Changing words can have a positive effect on your attitude, instead use ‘I will find the willpower to do that!’. Lack of willpower is a negative energetic term and can is perhaps used as an excuse for not bothering to do something, or not feeling determined enough.
Everyone can have the willpower to achieve what they want…
HOW CAN WILLPOWER BE USED?
Willpower can be used for all areas of our life. For example, if you wanted to eat healthily you would use willpower to avoid sweet or indulgent temptations, keeping in mind your long-term goal. Having the willpower to do something physical would need motivation and energy to initiate and succeed. Willpower is often a desire for self-improvement and may involve a change to bad or unwanted habits. Everyone can have the willpower to achieve what they want and sometimes it can be something as simple as changing a routine or behaviour. Embracing willpower to make something happen is all you need to get what your heart desires.
HOW TO INCREASE WILLPOWER
Focusing on how you live your life and changing how you think and feel can have a very positive effect. Find out how to increase willpower and how to energise yourself so that you feel motivated, determined and disciplined.
NUTRITION: Our body needs healthy and nutritious food that is high in protein and we need to eat regularly to make sure that our body has energy while we are awake. Drink at least 2 litres of water a day which will energise you and flush out toxins.
SLEEP: We all need a decent amount of sleep to be able to function properly during the day. Lack of sleep will make us feel low in energy, thus contributing to a lack of willpower.
: If you have goals
that you want to reach, make sure that you do not try to change too many things at one time. Making major changes in life can be stressful and there is no need to overburden yourself and potentially risk disappointment.
: Do something small for yourself every day that will help you focus and empower
you for the future. For example, listen to a meditation track before you go to sleep or enrol in a local yoga class.
REWARD YOURSELF: Give yourself an occasional reward as you work on your goals. For example, if you are eating healthily then treat yourself to lunch out with a friend every few weeks.
VISUALISE: During a quiet moment, close your eyes and visualise your end goal, imagine how you will feel and how the result will have had a positive effect on your life. It is believed that if you keep visualising a goal, you can naturally manifest it.
Eating nutritious food, getting enough sleep, relaxing and finding time for yourself can be difficult…
WHY DO WE LACK WILLPOWER?
Lack of willpower is often caused because you do not feel motivated or determined enough to do what you need to do to achieve the end result. More often it is because influences in your life may be absorbing your energy and it’s important to not put additional pressure on yourself so that you do not feel disheartened. Having a lack of willpower is understandable when you’re exhausted or if you’re very busy, or going through a tough time. Eating nutritious food, getting enough sleep, relaxing and finding time for yourself can be difficult but it’s not impossible. Even if you are lacking in willpower, by making small changes to your life every day, you will steadily increase your motivation and willpower.
