TheCircle recently carried out a study to find out what the most common dreams are across the UK. Nearly a third of respondents who did remember their dreams dreamt most frequently of falling. Psychologist and dream expert Ian Wallace suggests that this common dream of falling “usually occurs when a person suddenly realises that they will not be able to completely control the outcome of a particular situation that they are involved in”. Wallace believes these dreams “can happen if a person has set high standards for the results they expect, and it may seem as if they have failed if they cannot attain them”.
This suggests that Britons are setting themselves impossible targets and becoming anxious that they cannot achieve them. Wallace advises that we relieve ourselves of some of our responsibilities in order to give ourselves freedom from the pressure of our high standards. The study revealed that aside from falling (32.5%), the most ‘dreamt’ dreams in the UK are being chased (25%), teeth falling out or rotting away (20%), being late (12.5%) and being naked in a public place (10%). The Circle has put together a dream guide with insights from industry experts to help decipher the top five most common dreams.
