Repeat this to yourself as you go out. Smile at people and say hello. The ones that respond will lift you – as for the ones that don’t, it’s their loss! After a while you will find that you are naturally more cheerful. Smiling becomes a habit, so definitely begin your day with a big smile at the face in the mirror!
Your energy may begin to run low and you doubt lots of things – especially yourself! That’s just one effect of the autumn chill. A gift of autumn is to turn your attention inwards, so you can grow internally. When your confidence drains, don’t try to reason yourself out of this because your ‘monkey mind’ can make it worse! Light a purple candle and surround it with sage leaves. Imagine you are breathing in the flame, burning deep within you, your flame of unique insight. Whenever you need encouragement, imagine your inner self, shining bright with your truth.
It’s funny how darkness can make you think of all the things you’ve done wrong. You don’t have the summer sun and all its activities to distract you and you may reflect on your short-comings. It’s time for self-forgiveness, so be your own best mate. Whenever guilt or shame overtakes you, make the affirmation. In some way your ‘mistakes’ have taught you and others some valuable lessons. Write the stuff you think you’ve messed up on rice paper and scatter it for the birds to eat. Your slip-ups are creating valuable nourishment!
Autumn is a time for cosy gatherings, and you want them to be nothing but uplifting for you. Most of us collect people around us that leach our energy and/or make us feel bad about ourselves at times. It can be hard to rid your life of such people because you may feel obligated. Work to demolish this sense of ‘obligation’ by regularly using this affirmation. Gradually it will become clear to you who’s a true mate and who isn’t!
