Letting Go of The Past

Letting go of the past enables you to move forward. Let go of negative thoughts and feel more positive about your life ahead.
Letting go of situations, whether physically, mentally, or emotionally can be a difficult process. However, it is something that helps us to emotionally move forward with our life and gives us a sense of release and freedom, enabling us to close one door and open another. Knowing how to let go is the key but once you have taken that first step, your life could change in an extremely positive way.

Most of us at some point have experienced a relationship which was not happy or fulfilling. When a relationship is not a positive aspect of your life, it is important to realise that letting someone go will be better for us. So many people have on/off relationships where they split up then get back together and believe that it may be different and better the next time. Often it is not, and in most cases it would be better for you to take the view that letting go of that person may be a better option for you in the long-run. Staying with a partner when they are hurting you or upsetting you often is an extremely negative way to live. Controlling or abusive behaviour should never be tolerated, and cheating or dishonesty should never be accepted. Sadly, people are not likely to change, so letting go of a relationship that does not make you happy is actually the best thing to do.

Many people get hurt in love, but why should that negative person from the past stop you from being in a loyal and loving relationship?

If you have experienced a negative relationship in the past, you may have issues with trusting current or future partners. Letting go of the past is extremely important so that you can live a more fulfilled and happy life. Why let past negative thoughts affect your new relationship? Remember that your current partner is not the same person as your last partner. Be realistic; you are unlikely to have got into a new relationship with someone similar to the person who caused you so much upset! Letting someone go from the past so that you do not think about them anymore or give them any of your emotional energy will change your life for the better. Many people get hurt in love, but why should that stop you from having a new loving relationship? Embrace new love, let go of the past, and try not to reminisce with negative thoughts. Work on your self-confidence and self-esteem so that you believe you deserve a good relationship.

Have you heard of the expression ‘feel the fear and do it anyway’?

If you need some encouragement and advice on how to let go of aspects of your life that do not have a positive impact anymore, read our tips below:

PAST RELATIONSHIPS: Forgiving and forgetting may be hard to do but it actually gives a huge release and liberates you from hurtful feelings and emotions. Move forward with your head held high and do things that will actively boost your ego and confidence!
BAD HABITS: Letting go of bad habits such as drinking too much, comfort eating or smoking could have a very positive effect on your life. Look after your health, think about your future, and envisage yourself being happy and healthy. Change bad habits and admire the ‘new you’ in the mirror!
NEGATIVE PEOPLE: All of the people in our life, especially our friends, should be caring, loving and encouraging. If you have negative people in your life who drain you or bring you down, ease yourself away from them! Letting go of those who are not helpful for us will create space for potentially meeting new friends.
FEAR: Have you heard of the expression ‘feel the fear and do it anyway’? Try not to go through life missing out on exciting events or things that, deep down, you would have loved to do. Letting go of fear so that you can do something thrilling, or finally making a major decision in work, love or your home, could just open the doors to a whole new you and a life that you could never have dreamed of.
Letting go and accepting the death of someone close often needs professional support…

Whether it’s expected or unexpected, when we lose somebody we love, it can be utterly devastating. The loss of a loved one is something that all of us will have to go through at some point or another, and possibly a few times during our life, but the pain and grieving that we feel can be overwhelming and all-consuming. Losing someone especially close to us leaves a void that will never be filled, and somehow we have to try and carry on. It is important to understand that everyone needs time and patience to go through the process of grief. There is no fixed time for grieving and everybody is different; what may take several months for some people could take years for another. Letting go and accepting the death of someone close often needs professional support such as Grief Counselling, which many people find a helpful crutch to get them through the difficult times. If you are struggling to accept the death of a loved one, seek extra support from your GP or a professional counsellor.
