Five Ways to Revitalise Your Relationship

Even the best relationships can go stale, as humdrum routine takes over.  When we meet a special someone we are transported into a world of magic and mystery as our spirits vibrate at a higher level, in harmony.  This can change as time goes by and real life dulls our perceptions.  The Circle readers can give you more insight into your current relation ship, but you can bring back the enchantment and write a new page with some simple fresh approaches.

1)    Have you heard the saying ‘Familiarity breeds contempt’?.  So take some time apart.  This may not sound like the best way to foster intimacy, but it works. Currently, couples may have more times together than during any period in history.  Men aren’t conscripted to foreign wars or off for days on hunting forages, women rarely die in childbirth and we all live longer.  This can mean more opportunity for falling out or getting bored – but you can change that.  Whether you choose a separation for hours, days or even weeks depends on how you are fixed.  During your time off, try to get involved in other interesting things, and when you are re-united make an event of it, by dining alone together and talking about your experiences.  You can see each other in a new light.

2)    Re-live the past – selected clips, that is.  Think about the first time you met, your first date etc. and how excited you felt.  Spend some time really imagining this – alone, or together – and bring that heightened feeling back into the present.

3)    Go on a date together.  If you are to flourish as a couple you must have some time alone.  This doesn’t meaning slobbing out in front of the telly or troughing a sandwich while you both fiddle with your smartphones – it means quality time where you concentrate on the other person and enjoy something together.  Again, a meal out gives the perfect opportunity to talk.  Ideally this should be once a week, but at least once a month is recommended.  If you have kids, book a babysitter.  If work is demanding, leave your mobile at home.  You deserve a few precious hours.

4)    Surprise each other.  This could be by leaving a note in lunch-box or luggage, by dressing differently or even playing games.  One suggestion is to dress to impress, go out separately and ‘accidentally’ meet up somewhere you’ve agreed.  Then pretend you’ve met for the first time and go through the full chat-up-and-pull routine.  At the very least it will be a laugh….

5)    …which brings us to the last-but-not-least final point – shared humour.  Laughing is a massive tonic and when you do it together it’s an amazing aphrodisiac, too.  Find a show or film that makes you both giggle like crazy and you could discover a whole new meaning to rolling in the aisles!
