The Crown Chakra

Understanding the crown chakra meaning, how crown chakra meditation can release a blocked crown chakra, creating an open channel to universal and personal wisdom.

The crown chakra with the Sanskrit name of ‘Sahasrara’, meaning “the lotus flower of 1000 petals” is found at the top of the head and is the last in line of the seven main chakras in the body, making it the 7th chakra. The crown chakra meaning is associated with the brain, the pineal gland and the nervous system. It is both universal and individual, relating to spirituality, religion, faith and beliefs and is the connection to our spiritual self, the divine soul. The crown chakra is linked energetically to the higher self, helping us to feel safe, secure in our wisdom and inspired with our own intuition and guidance.

A balanced crown chakra enables someone to feel connected with their higher self…

The 7th chakra is the centre of our happiness, positivity, inspiration, intuition, trust and devotion. It links deeply to our inner soul, connecting us with the universe and communicating with the Divine, God, faith, religion and the universe. The crown chakra meaning represents the part of our consciousness, supporting us with our concerns in separation and unity, helping us to find and acknowledge balance in our lives. A balanced crown chakra enables someone to feel connected with their higher self, their inner wisdom and their spiritual soul, guiding them in everything they do. It allows you to have increased awareness on an emotional level, signifying illumination with its spiritual colours of intense violet and white. The crown chakra is the gateway to chakras, where spiritual energy enters the body and is distributed amongst our chakras. It sits closely to Ajna, also known as the third eye chakra or the brow chakra. Ajna is the primary chakra, the open window to intuition, Psychic ability and energetic spiritual enlightenment.

Crown chakra meditation stimulates the 7th chakra, assisting it to open up and connect with our spiritual self and the universe. For most people, the crown chakra is not normally open, so it is an unusual experience in itself. When the crown chakra opens, you can feel strange sensations around your head. It may feel like you are being operated on and there is an unexplainable pressure on the top of the head, which is not painful but can feel unfamiliar. Other crown chakra opening symptoms are tingling sensations in the head and spine, headaches and feeling lightheaded. Spiritually, you will experience a feeling of unity and sense a deeper meaning of life. Crown chakra opening symptoms experience a connection with the universe, a conscious exchange of energy from the Divine, and a complete feeling of togetherness.

A blocked crown chakra can happen when there is an imbalance. It can affect us physically, mentally and spiritually and there are several symptoms which can relate to a blocked crown chakra:

  • Migraines and reoccurring headaches
  • Insomnia and sleep disorders
  • Amnesia and Alzheimer’s
  • Schizophrenia and mental health issues
  • Pineal gland and thyroid disorders
  • Neurological disorders and nerve pain

  • Unable to communicate or connect with others
  • Lacking in faith, beliefs and spirituality
  • Feeling disconnected from inner feelings and emotions
  • Feeling lonely and unimportant

Meditation is believed to be one of the most successful ways of healing and balancing a blocked crown chakra…

Crown chakra healing can be carried out with an experienced Reiki Healer, but you can also use a self-help method called crown chakra meditation. Crown chakra meditation enables us to heal the crown chakra by removing blockages. Meditation is believed to be one of the most successful ways of healing and balancing a blocked crown chakra. Crown chakra meditation is done by visualising a white or violet light flowing in to the top of your head, submerging the crown chakra in its healing energy and washing away any blockages. Some people also combine mantra healing, singing the mantra of ‘ohm’ to help relax the mind, balancing the crown chakra and awakening the spiritual mind. Crystals or gemstones are also used for chakra balancing, Amethyst for purifying and protection, and Clear Quartz for clarity, wisdom and spiritual enlightenment.
