In our current climate of advanced technology, high pressure and fast paced lifestyles, it’s very commonplace not to take care of our spiritual emotional selves.


We are all planning the next phase of our lives, either at work for our career development or focusing on what our next course of action is. In our personal lives, we can be constantly looking ahead, planning a trip, how to spend Christmas, our children’s education - what school or university are they going to next, even the weekly shopping in advance. This all leads to us to never taking time to live in the present.

 

When did you last just sit and do nothing, to take in your surroundings, observe and enjoy nature or just watch the world go by?  Maybe you only do this when you are on holiday, but even then you might be catching up on your reading or planning activities or places of interest to visit.

 

Techniques to Help Clear Your MInd

 

The only way you can truly connect with your inner self is to sit and do nothing and see where it takes you. If you are able to meditate, this is a very good practice to clear your mind and neutralise your thoughts. It’s not always easy to meditate as quite often your head is so full of thoughts and unfulfilled actions, but techniques can be learnt to help clear your mind, with deep breathing exercises that place you in the right physical state for your mind to respond.

 

  • Find a quiet place where you can sit comfortably, undisturbed and allow yourself the time to go into a meditative state. It might seem quite difficult at first, but with practice we can all achieve this. Meditation has been used as a source of emotional and spiritual therapy for centuries and practised by many great philosophers and influential people to re-energise their minds and thought processes.
     
  •  It can help you to discover who you really are and not what you perceive to be, to gain inspiration and hope from within yourself and lead you to greater personal fulfilment. You will need to practice this regularly, but once you start to feel the benefits, you should hopefully find that you want to fit it into your life on a regular basis.
     
  • You may go through a period of self-discovery that you feel uncomfortable with and discover things about yourself that you don’t really like, but it’s important to allow these emotions to flow through you. To acknowledge your thoughts, accept they are a state of mind and can be changed with positive thoughts and actions.
     
  • There is nothing to gain from dwelling on any negativity from the past and how things could have been done differently. You need to accept the past for what it is – the past. It may have shaped who you are today, but what’s important is now – the present and you are in control of your thoughts and feelings.

We all take the time and money to look after other areas of our lives, gaining satisfaction from acquiring material possessions, wealth and exercising our physical self, but few take the time to exercise their minds. Once you start to do this, you will find that through self-awareness and connecting with your emotional and spiritual state, it may lead you to greater things than you have never experienced before.


On your journey through life, you will experience situations that make you feel angry, upset or bad about yourself, but what you have to remember is that you are in control of your feelings and YOU are allowing negative situations or people to make you feel like this. You may not be able to control the situation but you CAN control how you feel or react to it.  Reacting in a negative way will ultimately just make you feel worse.


Be the bigger person and always ignore or walk away from negativity. Otherwise the only person you will be harming is yourself. This is not always easy to do, especially if feel vengeful or aggrieved with someone or a situation, but in the long term you will feel better about yourself. Remember, once something has been said or acted upon, you can’t take it back. Also, if you react badly, you are promoting a pattern of negative behaviour which will be repeated again and again.


There is so much negativity projected in our world today, we have lost sight of the things that really matter – caring for one another, family and friends. Spending time with the people we love, respect and admire. Shroud yourself with positivity, with people and surroundings that make you feel good as a human being on an emotional level.

  • Try using the ‘Law of Attraction’ every day and see what a difference it can make! Whenever a bad or negative thought occurs, immediately banish it from your mind and try to think of something or someone that makes you feel happy or good
     
  • Remember every single negative thought will bring another one, so replace it with happy thoughts which will always bring you positivity and a feeling of wellbeing.  Our minds are so much more powerful than you think and without realising it, you can transmit positivity and joy to others just by your happy, loving thoughts
     
  • Spirituality is our life force and the most powerful emotion within all of us. We all have the ability to greatly enhance our lives and those close to us, just by generating and sharing the power of love and positivity.
