The Tarot of Eden

The paradise deck, 2/3

The well-known author, Maud Kristen has written an accompanying book to these wonderful cards, although the descriptions are rather limited. With the Major Arkanas there is a brief description of the illustration, indicating features of importance and a basic interpretation, relating to feelings, how it pertains to one’s career and how to use it for personal development. The Minor Arkanas are covered more briefly. Sometimes just a few lines suffice to give a general interpretation. The interpretation of the three and the chalice as, ”news by fax, telephone or post”, and “an amorous meeting”, is in my opinion, not merely economical, but inaccurate. It’s a shame since this deck of cards has not only many spiritual depths, but in addition had the possibility for a comprehensive depiction of the mysticism of numerals in connection with the respective symbol. It is possible that the accompanying book has more to do with the author’s personal approach, and less to do with a comprehensive analysis of the cards. Not that this should or would deter those tarot enthusiasts who are impressed by this deck from buying it. Once someone has fallen in love with the Eden tarot with its the stunningly beautiful illustrations no further discussion is necessary!

Justice
A rose coloured angel, dressed as a butterfly in the sky is blowing a trumpet. A crowd of spirits; possibly representing a sort of reincarnation accompany her. In the Tarot of Eden the principle interpretation of this card is an unexpected piece of news or a surprise. The angel communicates a sudden realisation and announces the resurrection. The rainbow (surrounding the spirits) represents reality, which is shown by the entire colour spectrum. The artist emphasises the heraldic aspect of justice bringing news by illustrating her connection to the heavens.
New insights and inspirations are also indicated by this card, which can mean new discoveries in relation to professional life or new professional opportunities opening up. On an emotional level, Justice represents a sudden reappraisal of a situation, in connection with an unexpected event or a new discovery. Maud Kristin cautions seeing the forthcoming news only as positive, since Justice can also represent the approaching break-up of a relationship or a forthcoming divorce. Business failures or bankruptcies are also conceivable though the cards shouldn’t be taken too literally, since the scope is wide, and should be used more to illustrate more fundamental and archetypal meanings. In addition, the many different possible prognoses also depend on how the cards are laid, the combination with other cards and what questions are asked. Generally the card is seen as a sort of clarification that brings up old ghosts (hence the spirits; the card is often also called the resurrection) and so indirectly shows some sort of judgement day relating to certain issues.
