The High Priestess card from the Major Arcana has been the subject of controversy and discussion for centuries among Tarot specialists. The High Priestess, the symbol of peace, calm, passivity and intuition, is one of the cards of protection in the Tarot.
It stands for peace, intuition, listening and acting on our gut feelings. The High Priestess embodies the feminine principal of the passive and secretive voice, but all the time she remains neutral. She sits between a white and a black pillar, symbolising day and night, good and evil, wrong and right.
The letters B and J on either side of her stand for ‘Boaz’ and ‘Jakin’ which are the names of the two main columns at the Temple of Solomon in Jerusalem. These columns represent duality, passivity and activity, the consciousness and the subconsciousness.
If The High Priestess is drawn in your Tarot spread, you can be sure of protection and the feeling of calm and well-being. Retain your inner peace, listen to your gut feeling when making decisions and allow yourself a quiet moment for some contemplation, the Priestess standing in front of her temple of wisdom.
