Most of us know that we should love ourselves if we expect anyone else to love us, and yet we don’t always try hard enough to put this into practice. Looking for self-worth through someone else’s feelings rarely results in a healthy, balanced partnership. If you want to give the best to your lover and get the best out of your relationship, look after Number One first. Now that the sensual month of May is here, turn yourself into a May Monarch and shine!
Try these tips:
• FORGIVE YOURSELF
The chances are you’ve done things in the past that you beat yourself up about, or that make you cringe when you recall them. But how would you react if this was about someone else – someone vulnerable who needed help and support? The answer is that you would forgive them and tell them not to worry – probably you would think what they’d done wasn’t so terrible after all. So give that kindness to yourself, too.
• LISTEN TO YOUR FEELINGS
If you are sad, worried, jealous or hateful, listen to yourself. Be sympathetic. Explore the emotions, where they come from and why you feel them. Be compassionate towards yourself. Remind yourself that feelings can’t be controlled, any more than you can control the weather, so the way you feel isn’t your fault. Acknowledge this, and sometimes change just happens!
• BE WITH PEOPLE WHO ARE KIND AND SUPPORTIVE
If you have trouble loving yourself then it’s probably due to your past. The last thing you need is negative stuff reinforced by so-called friends. Choose to be with positive, loving people and gradually you will absorb their outlook.
• DO WHAT YOU DO WELL
If you are good at something then probably you take it for granted, dismissing it as ‘easy’ and saying ‘Oh that! – That’s nothing!’ But it’s important, and very valuable. Spend time doing what you have a talent for – baking, gardening, dancing, writing – and experience self-satisfaction.
Get rid of clutter and tidy up. This will give you a great boost because it sends messages to your subconscious that you are in control. Every time you look at the space you’ve cleared and tidied you’ll feel powerful and lifted.
• LAUGH AND PLAY
Always make plenty of time to play and enjoy yourself, however hard you’re working. Also, try to have a good laugh, as often as possible. Laughter has the most amazing healing and therapeutic properties, so enjoy!
• DON’T GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAM JOB
You may have to do something you aren’t so keen on, in order to get by, but chase your dream in your spare time. Even if your job bores you, set yourself little challenges within it. Each time you meet them or exceed your own expectations, you’ll be on a mini-high, and feeling better about yourself.
Sometimes, despite all your efforts, you just can’t seem to see anything wonderful about yourself. This is probably due to experiences you had when you were growing up. But however deep this goes, you can make headway against it. There is so much good advice on offer for you at The Circle.
