Learn to Thrive Without Your Mentor

A teacher or mentor can be a wonderful influence in your life.  Someone to look up to and rely on, someone to provide a role model and who can inspire you and make you feel safe at the same time – a kind mentor opens doors for you, in your mind and in the external world.  But sooner or later we all have to manage without such a special person, and you may feel their loss very deeply.

YOUR MENTOR WILL ALWAYS BE PART OF YOU.

Think about all the supportive and encouraging things your mentor said or did.  These will always be part of you – they are a gift that no person, circumstance or amount of time can take away from you.  Write down all the important memories in a special notebook to read through if you feel low.  Listen to the voice of your mentor in your head, for their encouragement is always there.

BE CAREFUL ABOUT ATTACHING TO ANOTHER MENTOR.

You won’t be able to replace your mentor, of course, and it wouldn’t be a good idea to rush around trying to fill the gap.  Remember you are vulnerable and you could attach to someone unsuitable, so take your time and make sure anyone you consider truly is suitable.

ANOTHER MENTOR WILL COME ALONG.

If you still need a teacher or mentor, another one will come along.  When this happens, try not to make comparisons with your former mentor.  The latest one may not seem as good at first but if you give them a chance they will have their own contribution to make to your life.  Don’t feel disloyal to your former mentor – he or she would want you to find support elsewhere.

CONTINUE THE WORK OF YOUR MENTOR

If possible, keep going with whatever project or work you and your mentor did together.  Even if you can’t do it in quite the same way, have a go.  Whatever you achieve, however small, will be worthwhile.

IF YOUR MENTOR HAS LET YOU DOWN

That can be truly painful, especially if you are young.  Try to focus on all the good things your mentor gave you.  No-one is perfect, and maybe you are learning a valuable lesson about life.  Leave behind black or white thinking and appreciate the good things.

IF YOUR MENTOR HAS DIED

This will leave a great gap in your life.  It may be quite frightening to realize that this person who seemed so strong could be taken away.  But in another sense your mentor will always e with you.  If you have spiritual beliefs, this will help.  A person who cared about your welfare in this life is likely to continue doing so from another dimension.  Open yourself to the loving presences that surround you.

You can feel truly lost without a much-loved mentor, and talking about this can be a great consolation.  At The Circle you can always contact a psychic or medium who can help you.  Benefit from a psychic reading, check your horoscope, get some advice, insight and support.  A clairvoyant reading can show ways to move forwards, so make contact with us without delay.
