Tarot School - Lesson 4
The Celtic Cross Tarot Spread

So far we have looked at Tarot spreads that work in a line and that follow a pattern. In the last Spread in this lesson we will look at a Tarot spread that puts both those methods together. This Tarot spread is one of the most well-known and some say oldest of Tarot reading spreads. It’s called the Celtic Cross and it looks like this:

The meaning of the placing of the Tarot cards is as follows:

Card 1: The situation as it is now, what is happening now

Card 2: The strongest influence on the situation, what the client needs to be aware of now, ‘what is covering’ the client.

Card 3 : What is ahead of the client, what is likely to happen, where the present course is taking them, the future ahead

Card 4: What is behind the client, what the client can look back and learn from, the root of the matter, the distant past

Card 5: The more recent past, what has just happened to bring about the present situation.

Card 6: What is immediately ahead, what is in front of the client, what is about to happen if the client continues as they are.

Card 7:The clients attitude and approach to the subject and what is happening

Card 8 : Influence of others on the subject and what is happening

Card 9: The clients hopes and fears about the subject and what is happening

Card 10: The outcome, the conclusion and how it will all work out.
